Ottumwa -- On the same day that they dropped out of the NJCAA rankings for the first time all year, the Indian Hills volleyball team showed they are intent on returning to the top 20 with a 3-0 win over the Central College junior varsity on Wednesday night at the Tom Arnold Net Center.
Central led 4-2 in game one, before the Warriors buried the visitors with an impressive combination of serving, passing and net play. IHCC rolled in the first game 30-15, then had an easier time in the second game, pounding the Dutch 30-8. Freshman Caitlin Davis served nine straight points late in that game and had three of her six aces on the night in that stretch. The Warriors then closed out Central with a 30-16 win in the third game.
Coach Tori Fowler was able to get playing time for all 12 players on the roster and reserves Rebecca Goos and Allegra Tennis combined for nine kills.
IHCC had a season-high 16 ace serves with Allison Uceda matching Davis' total of six. Melanie Hackbarth had 28 assists and Chelsea Wood had 11 digs.
The Warriors will rest up before next Monday's match at Indianola against the Simpson JV. Their final regular-season home match will be against Iowa Western next Wednesday.
